International Chess Jam 2010 (State Qualifier)

Come PLAY at the thirteenth annual Chess Jam, a tournament and playday for chessplayers of ALL abilities, from beginner to expert. K-6 players with a 3/5 score qualify for the 2010 Washington State Elementary Chess Championships! Open to anyone grades K-12.

Location:

Ferndale High School (five minutes north of Bellingham). Cafeteria for check-in, hang out, K-6 sections. Library for 7-12 section.(See below for directions to the school.)

Time:

Check-in 8:30am, first round at 9:15am. Awards ASAP after last round (estimated 4:20 p.m).

Eligible:

Any student grades K-12.

Format:

K-1, 2-3, 4-6 all are Game/30, 7-12 is Game/45

Awards:

Awards to top ten in upper sections, top five in K-1 section. Medals to those scoring 3.0 or higher. Every K-1 player who completes all five rounds will receive a medal or trophy. Plaques to top seven elementary schools (determined by adding the points of the top five scorers from a single K-5 or K-6 school). Team awards to top three schools in the 7th-12th grade division. Tiebreaks by computer.

Concessions:

Concessions on site. Operated by the Sarah Wickham's 5th-6th grade class at Skyline Elementary School, and they're bringing healthy food, yummy, home-made items, a lunch option, and more!

Miscellaneous:

Boards, sets, for skittles area, pen/cils, lunch/concessions money. Chess clock for the 7th-12 grade section if you have one. And bring a riddle to write on an index card for door prizes. Groaners are fine. It might be read publicly between rounds! (i.e. Why did the mother owl not worry about her baby? Because she didn't give a hoot!)
