Description:When:Mondays, 8:15–9:15am ; 10 sessionsWhere:John Hay ElementaryWho should attend:Any student (grades K–5) interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess.Benefits:Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.Instructors:Chess4Life instructors work closely under the guidance of National Chess Master Elliott Neff. All instructors follow the coaching methods that were developed by Elliott over the past 17 years in training multiple students and teams to both state and national titles (including the 2005 and 2008 National Elementary K-5 Championship Team). Elliott has recently opened the Chess4Life Chess Center in Bellevue where students can receive additional training and where Chess4Life coaches continue to develop and hone their chess coaching skills with personal guidance from Elliott.Material Covered:Classes are tailored to the level of competency exhibited among the students.Classes typically include:basic principles and strategy of how to open a chess game, how to conduct the middlegame, and how to win (or avoid losing) in the endgame. Many other basic to advanced level tactics are also taught, including visualization techniques and tournament practice.Tuition:$150 total for the 10-session winter class. Register early to save your child's place. More room is now available...however, there is a cap of 50 students.
