Description:

When:

Mondays, 3:15–4:15p.m.; Class begins September 24th and ends April 21st. There is no class on holidays and no-school days.

Who should attend:

Any student interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess.

Benefits:

Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.

Instructors:

Elliott Neff has 16 years of experience coaching and teaching chess. he currently is coach to multiple students in the top 100 list in the US for their age division. lliott has coached and been captain of the Washington International Scholastic Chess Team for many years and most recently coordinated the 2005 Washington State Elementary Chess Championships (the largest chess tournament in WA state). Elliott has defeated several international master grandmaster level chess players in competition. he is also proficient at blindfold chess. Other successes include: Coach of the 2005 US National K-5 Championship Team, Coach of the 2003 National Grade 4 Champion, and 2000 US Open Speed Chess Co-Champion.

Material Covered:

Classes are tailored to the level of competency exhibited among the students.

Classes typically include:

Basic principles and strategy of how to open a chess game, how to conduct the middlegame, and how to win (or avoid losing) in the endgame. Many other basic to advanced level tactics are also taught, including visualization techniques and tournament practice.

Tuition:

$175 total for the Fall/Winter class. At the end of the fall/winter class in April a new class will be offerred starting the following week through the end of the year. Please keep an eye out for information about this.

Late Pick-Up Policy:

Students are to be picked up when the class ends promptly at 4:15p.m. Coaches will stay with kids for a few minutes extra to provide for late pick-up. Students picked up late repeatedly will unfortunately be removed from the after-school chess program.
