National Master John Graves

Coach John is an extremely enthusiastic chess coach of a high level that is great with kids of all skill levels and ages.

Former Oregon Open Champion; placed 2nd at the WA State Championships with an undefeated score.

Held former US Champion GM Alex Yermolinsky, to a draw at the WA Open Championships

Multiple years experience coaching kids; has been a big reason for the growth in chess in the Tacoma area.

Conrado Julian

Parent of two strong chess students in the Tacoma area, Conrado is very involved in the chess comunity in the South End.

Sponsor of the Tacoma Friday Night Quads, as well as the John L. Scott Open Chess Tournament. Conrado hopes to coordinate future tournaments and chess events.

Opening, middle game, and end game studies Tournament games Specialties including: bughouse and puzzles

Daily Schedule:

8:45-9:15a.m. Drop-off and casual play

9:15-10:15a.m. Morning Classes

10:15-10:30p.m. Break Time

10:30-11:30a.m. Tournament Style games with analysis of some

11:30am-12:15p.m. 2nd half of morning classes

12:15-12:45p.m. Lunch Break and Morning Pick up / Afternoon Drop Off

12:45-1:45p.m. Afternoon Classes

1:45-2:00p.m. Afternoon Break

2:00-3:00p.m. Tournament games

3:00-3:40p.m. Afternoon Classes

3:45-4:00p.m.* Free Play, Simuls, Bughouse, Blitz, Clean-up, Check-out

*There is a late fee charged for students picked up after 4:00p.m.

Additional Info:

Please bring chess clock if available. Chess set, board and carrying case available at camp for special rate of $20. An optional Early Drop off/pick up is available for an additional $5/hour. Email kids@chess4life.com if interested. There is a $30 cancellation fee.
