Description:

Registration now open for Spring 2012

When:

Thursdays 3:30 - 4:45 pm. The Winter Quarter 2012 begins on January 12 and ends on April 12. NOTE: An extra session was added to account for the snow day in January.

Where:

Chess Club meets in the Library at Alcott Elementary.

Who should attend:

Chess Club is open to all students in Grades K-6 who are interested in learning the rules of chess or improving their game.

Benefits:

Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.

Chess4Life instructors work closely under the guidance of National Master Elliott Neff. All instructors follow the coaching methods that were developed by Elliott over the past 20 years in training students and teams to both state and national titles. In 2006 Elliott Neff opened the Chess4Life Center in Bellevue, where students can receive additional training and where Chess4Life coaches continue to develop and hone their teaching skills with personal guidance from Elliott.

Material Covered:

Classes are tailored to the skill-level of the students. In addition to learning the basic rules of chess, our classes typically include lessons on fundamental opening principles, middlegame tactics and strategy, as well as basic endgame technique. Coaches also work with students in other areas like visualization, preparing for tournament competition, board habits, and much more.

Tuition:

$140 per child for Winter 2012
