April Seattle Beginner's Tournament (Chess4Life Hosted)

Introduce your child to the fun excitement of a chess tournament and make new friends in chess! With eligible players only those that have played none or just a couple 'rated' tournaments, this is a great way to introduce competition without your child having to face 'experienced' tournament players right away. Staff on hand will explain the rules of tournament play and help the kids have a fun time. Studies show that kids that make friends and play in tournaments enjoy chess more, continue longer with chess, and thereby gain more of the great benefits chess provides (increased concentration, memory, math skills, critical thinking skills, etc.)

Location:

Located at the Chess4Life Seattle Center, 4540 Union Bay Place NE, Suite 208, Seattle, WA 98105. (Right beside University Village.) (see below for directions)

Time:

Check-in from 8:30am, first round of play starts at 9:00am. Awards begin ASAP after last round, estimated at 1:00 pm.

Eligible:

Any student grades K-6 who has played in 3 or fewer tournaments.

Format:

Tournament for grades K-6, sections for K-1, 2-3 and 4-6. (Note: some groups may be combined if sections are small.)

Awards:

A generous number of trophies and medals are awarded to the top finishers.

Entry Fee:

$18 per person (no extra fee for online registration), $25 after January 1st, 2012.

Miscellaneous:

Please bring your own clock and chess notation sheet if you have one, chess sets are provided.
