Description:

When:

Wednesday, 4:00–5:00p.m.; January 11th - March 21st (10 sessions).

Note: to make-up for the snow day on Jan 18th, we will have chess on March 21st.

Cedar Crest Academy - Kirkland Campus

Who should attend:

Any kindergarten, pre-kindergarten, or 1st-grade student interested in learning or increasing his or her knowledge of chess.

Benefits:

Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.

Instructors:

Chess4Life instructors work closely under the guidance of National Chess Master Elliott Neff. All instructors follow the coaching methods that were developed by Elliott over the past 18 years in training multiple students and teams to both state and national titles (including the 2005, 2008 and 2009 National Elementary K-5 Championship Team). Elliott opened the Chess4Life Chess Center in Bellevue where students can receive additional training and where Chess4Life coaches continue to develop and hone their chess coaching skills with personal guidance from Elliott.

Material Covered:

Classes are tailored to the level of competency exhibited among the students. Classes typically include: basic principles and strategy of how to open a chess game, how to conduct the middlegame, and how to win (or avoid losing) in the endgame. Many other basic to advanced level tactics are also taught, including visualization techniques and tournament practice. Tuition:

$155 for the Fall semester ($5 discount if you register online). Price goes up by $10 one week before the start of chess. Ratio of 8 to 1. Maximum of 16 students allowed. Register early to save a place in class.
