Description:

When:

Fridays starting February 3rd and ending March 30th. No class on February 17th and on early release days in March (2nd, 16th 23rd, and 30th) the class will be from 1:05 - 2:05.

Where:

Chain Lakes Elementary School library. Chess classes will meet in Portable 1 on 2/10 and 3/9.

Who should attend:

Any student interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess.

Benefits:

Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.

Instructors:

Chess4Life instructor Nick Rider works closely under the guidance of National Chess Master Elliott Neff. All instructors follow the coaching methods that were developed by Elliott over the past 19 years in training multiple students and teams to both state and national titles (including the 2005, 2008 and 2009 National Elementary K-5 Championship Team). Elliott opened the Chess4Life Chess Center in Bellevue where students can receive additional training and where Chess4Life coaches continue to develop and hone their chess coaching skills with personal guidance from Elliott.

Material Covered:

Classes are tailored to the level of competency exhibited among the students. Classes typically include: basic principles and strategy of how to open a chess game, how to conduct the middlegame, and how to win (or avoid losing) in the endgame. Many other basic to advanced level tactics are also taught, including visualization techniques and tournament practice. Tuition: $100 for the winter semester when you register online. Registrations by mail are $105. There is a limit of 16 players permitted in the program.
