Principal Instructors:

Grandmaster Emil Anka

Our instructors have a collective passion for the game, an enthusiasm for teaching children and the goal of not only teaching chess, but teaching life skills and positive character traits through chess instruction. Visit our coaches page to learn more about each of our valuable team members.

Class Schedule:

Each class will be broken down into 4 sections:

  • Review
    • Our trained Coaches will take time to cover past lesson(s) in a way that encompasses all students, allowing every individual to solidify their learning through application and explanation of previous topics.
  • Instruction
    • Coaches will introduce new topics in a way that makes learning fun and exciting to each student. Each class is tailored to the needs of the group; no student is left behind!
  • Practice
    • During this time every student is given the opportunity to apply what they have learned accompanied by one-on-one instruction and simulated game play with other students.
  • Testing
    • Coaches will complete an evaluation of the student's current retention, application, and overall knowledge of the newest topic covered.
Every hour guarantees your child will review, learn, practice and test in areas specific to their own level. Each of these levels vary slightly based on individual learning methods, and topics covered are based on the strength of individual students' learning capabilities within the class.

Educational Program:

In the Rook level, three-move tactics and visualization are taught. Students learn game planning (not just tactics) and more advanced endgames. The importance of learning to look for three choices before making a move is shown along with learning to understand imbalances and how to evaluate a position.

Make-Up Classes:

Students may attend a make up class when a scheduled class is missed within the same month of that scheduled class only. Exception to the same month policy - if the following month is already paid for, the make-up class may be extended to the following month. Please remember, the makeup classes are based on available class space and are not guaranteed, if space is unavailable the same month policy does still applies. Provide as much notification as possible if a class will be missed to ensure your student's seat in a Make-Up Class.

NOTE: A minimum of 24 hours notification is required prior to a missed class in order to schedule a free make-up class! Please contact the office staff to schedule a make-up class.

Achievement Charts:

Each student's progress is tracked on an achievement chart that measures individual progress through the curriculum. This chart remains at Chess4Life for reference and safe keeping.
