Description:

Wednesdays, 1:45 – 2:45 p.m.

Class begins February 15th and ends on May 2nd. NOTE: late entries welcome if room and approved by Coach Elliott - cost will be pro-rated for approved late entries.

Where:

Phantom Lake Elementary School. Students will be bussed immediately after school from Spiritridge to Phantom Lake. Please pick-up your students at Phantom Lake at 2:45.

Who should attend:

Any student interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess.

Benefits:

Chess study has shown to increase math skills, concentration, memory, and self-confidence.

NM Elliott Neff



National Master Elliott Neff will personally be overseeing the Spiritridge chess class this season. There is intended to be a focused group that will be preparing for the state and national championships, continuing the tradition that began at Stevenson and has produced multiple national champions, both individually and as part of the school team.

Grandmaster Emil Anka is scheduled to coach the Spiritridge team in addition to NM Neff, the founder of Chess4Life. GM Anka has coached students to both state, national, and international high level achievement, and is looking forward to helping students rapidly progress in their skills.

Additional Chess4Life coaches will be added as necessary in order to ensure high quality instruction, and will work under Coach Neff's supervision.

Material Covered:

Classes are tailored to the level of competency exhibited among the students.

Classes typically include:

evaluation of students' abilities, skills, and areas needing most improvement followed by a structured series of lessons to develop most important areas. Focus on skills improvement, attitude, competition performance, teamwork, and other areas vital to achieving success in chess and life.

Tuition:

$155 for the session ($5 off if you register online). This price includes transportation from Spiritridge to Phantom Lake Register Online early to save a place in class!
