A New Poem by Ray Yu

Chess

By Ray Yu April, 2005

Pawns are very strong and brave,

For eight more people they may save.

Knights can really hop so far,

They can jump over a giant car.

Bishops go diagonally every day

They are cross-eyed I would say.

Rooks are weaker than the Queen,

That's why in points the Queen is in front,

But don't look them down because they can really hunt.

Queens are awesome, they almost never die.

If Kings are without them I'll bet they will sigh.

Kings are worth the whole game, so don't lose.

If you dare to do so you'll be crowded with boos.

Beating Dad at Chess

By Ray Yu September, 2005

I''m going to win! I''m going to win!

My dad's pieces are in the garbage bin!

I took his Rooks, I took his Queen.

I took his pawns, my brain's quite keen.

I may lose at backgammon and checkers,

But at chess I win double-deckers.

I see it now, I see my fate.

I'm going to

WHAT!??? Checkmate?!

Finally Beating Dad at Chess

By Ray Yu February, 2006

I won! I won! I won by a pawn!

My dad’s king tripped! Out my lungs it ripped.

I won! I won! I won by a pawn!

I punched his pawn! I bashed his bishop!

I nabbed his knight! I ransacked his rook!

I cornered his queen and I killed his king!

I won! I won – what did you say? PLAY AGAIN!!!??? NO WAY!!
