GM Slugfest Tournament

The GM Slugfest is scheduled to be held on October 13th, 14th and 15th 2006. The first two days will be played at the Chess4Life center in Bellevue, with the final day held at the hotel. USCF rated, but not FIDE rated.

The first three rounds will be played as a combined section with the last three rounds being just within each age group. To win a seed, the players will need to do well outside their age group and also beat the other top player(s) in their age group. We are also adding an elimination component so that if they are mathematically eliminated from being able to win a seed, then they are out of the tournament. With BAP, you can score a lot of points very quickly, so we doubt that anybody will be eliminated until after round 4, but this starts having a big effect on round 5. If someone is eliminated, but still wants to play, we will pair them with others in the same category. Rapid and speed playoffs if needed.

There will be three seeds into the GM Slugfest. One junior qualifier under 21, one young adult qualifier 21 to 40 and one qualifier over 40. This is a once in a lifetime chance to play in a GM event.
