Bert Rutgers, a coach with a strong chess background has been coaching for a few years and is one of the most successful coaches with beginner to intermediate students. Bert is a high energy coach who inspires and excites his students.
- Education: BA in philosophy
- Involved with scholastic chess since 1996
- Was captain of the Lynden chess team in high school (NW League Champions, 4th in state, 2000)
- Currently coaches Lynden High School (NW League
Champions, 5th in state, 2007)
- Loves endgames and checkmate puzzles
- Loves to play the tuba
- Loves cross-country
- Currently working on his tournament performance
