Marcell Szabo

Marcell Szabo

Marcell Szabo is a fifth-grader at Lowell Elementary School, who in December 2011 was rated #10 in the country among players who are ten years old. He traveled to Brazil to play in the World Youth Championships November 17-27, 2011, where he scored a strong 5.5 points out of 9 in the ten-and-under section. On December 1, Marcell visited the Lowell Chess Club to present three of his best games. The youngest students found a winning knight fork that he had played; the intermediate students enjoyed a coordinated mating net; the most advanced students followed a successful rook-and-pawn endgame. Marcell™s energetic and insightful explanations inspired his fellow students (not to mention the Chess4Life coaches!).
